The North Face puffer jacket, AKA the influencers’ fave outerwear option, is back for another winter
Winter is coming… Nope, actually, it’s here already. And for the second year running, the coolest yet warmest piece of outerwear you can buy is a The North Face Puffer Jacket.
Always a sartorially savvy investment, the puffer jacket or duvet coat – despite being reminiscent of a marshmallow and not really that flattering – reigns supreme as one of the most sought-after outerwear pieces each and every winter. Sure, with each trip around the sun comes a bit of a reinvention (this season The Frankie Shop’s Quilted Ripstop Jacket is a popular choice) but puffer jackets are the winter coat style we can’t get enough of.
That said, there’s one puffer jacket in particular that makes an appearance year after year after year. And that’s The North Face puffer jacket. Favoured by the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry in the Noughties, once it gets colder, every influencer worth their weight in selfies dons one… we decide to buy one too… and then they all sell out!
In 2021, however, they’re bigger news than ever. That’s with thanks to the brand’s continuing collaboration with Gucci. ‘The Second Chapter’ collection just dropped this week. The North Face has put its name to a huge number of epic collabs over the years with pretty major designers (the capsule collection with Maison Martin Margiela included circular versions of North Face’s puffer and fleece vests, which were a hit with Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid), Supreme and Junya Watanabe. But the collab with Gucci trumps them all.
Celebrating the spirit of exploration, the collection is a logo lover’s dream, featuring walking boots, t-shirts, jackets, bum-bags, dresses and more – with branding and forest motifs splashed over pieces cut in The North Face’s signature silhouettes.
The collab plays into a pandemic hunger for “the essential” – another reason why our appetite for The North Face puffer jacket is greater than before. Our pandemic-induced desire for comfort over all else, means they’ll continue to prove popular for winters ahead. In fact, the (almost) season-less staple took the trophy for the number one searched item on fashion re-sell site Depop – earlier this year queries increased by more than 400%.
As well as the epic aqua coloured Gucci jacket and the cult Saikuru style Ellie Goulding has been wearing, The North Face also injects some fun into their super-cosy coats. We love the retro printed Nuptse jacket and the pale leopard print version. Wear one with your favourite jeans and Chelsea boots for weekend errands or over a dress, if you’re heading Out. We guarantee you’ll look cool but stay warm.
