Maternity leggings to wear during every trimester (and beyond) without compromising on style
As a pregnant woman, I can’t say how excited I am that maternity leggings are now socially acceptable 24/7. Whether I’m working from home, going on a walk or popping out to the shops, these cotton-Lycra babies are an absolute staple in my maternity clothing collection. And they will be long after after I’m sporting a bump.
If, like me, your belly is expanding on (what feels like) a daily basis, you’ll know that comfort is key. And although loungewear or tracksuit bottoms can do the trick, there really is nothing better than throwing on a pair of maternity leggings. With a stretchy band that comfortably covers your bump and the ability to suck you in and support you (without feeling like a squeezed sausage), maternity leggings form the base for most pregnant women’s wardrobes.
Besides the comfort factor, leggings – especially black leggings – go with everything. Pair your maternity leggings with a cardigan or white t-shirt if you’re working from home, and when you and your bump are ready to be seen out and about, dress them up with a blazer and a pair of fashion trainers. Or how about a white shirt (with a nursing bra underneath, obvs)? Tie your shirt in a knot at the top of your bump for extra bump visibility (as an extra bonus, you’ll probably be able to wear one of your pre-preggo pieces).
In short: if you’ve found yourself with an adorable little bun in the oven, investing in a couple of pairs of quality maternity leggings is a sartorial no-brainer. So which are the best? There is a plethora of stylish, non see-through leggings to chose from – from on-trend leggings with ankle split detail to leather look maternity leggings (this Spanx style is always sold out so get them before they’re gone) and high street staples like these from Mango. Maternity leggings have officially had a glow-up.
