IKEA Are Opening A Brand New Store In Hammersmith Next Month
IKEA Hammersmith will be small but mighty.
No, IKEA is not exactly a secret, we’ll grant you that. But since London is pretty wild for Malm and Fiskbo, we thought it only prudent to update you with their exciting new opening: IKEA Hammersmith. Bringing home furnishings to the heart of west London, the new store means schlepping up to Neasden or down to Croydon for lampshades will be a thing of the past.
In fact, IKEA Hammersmith is unique amongst London branches, neither a full-sized store like the ultra-sustainable Greenwich outpost, which opened in 2019, nor a small-scale planning studio like the old one on Tottenham Court Road, which is sadly no more.
While we might all be waiting in heavy anticipation for the Oxford Street branch to open up, we now have confirmation that the brand new Hammersmith offering is opening up on February 24. It’s billed as a “small format store”, one which is dedicated to home accessories, with over 2,000 home furnishing available to buy in store, and the full range available to purchase for home delivery. It’s the first of its kind in the UK, allowing customers to conveniently pop-in while strolling up the high street to purchase home goods.
IKEA Hammersmith will be opening with the Kings Mall Shopping Centre, just one part of a £170 million investment to transform the area. But far, far more important than any of that information is the excellent news that those iconic meatballs are also heading to Hammersmith, with a Swedish food deli joining the store. You’ll also find a range of hot and cold traditional Swedish delicacies, including Smörrebröd open sandwiches, Nordic Chicken Caesar and Swedish Mazarin. Plus, you can feast on a portion of plant balls, which have just 4% of the carbon footprint of their meat equivalent.
The store as a whole adds to IKEA’s brand pledge to become more “affordable, accessible and sustainable”.
Peter Jelkeby, Country Retail Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer at IKEA UK & Ireland added: “For the first time, Londoner’s will be able to take the tube to an IKEA store, pop in, grab a yellow bag and buy all the home furnishing accessories that make a house a home. They will also be able to explore the whole range, for delivery to a convenient collection point or directly to their home.”
With IKEA opening in Hammersmith, as well as venturing into Central London in the future, it’s safe to say that it looks like a good time to be an IKEA fan!
