Pancake Day (March 1, 2022) has once again crêped up on us and while our cupboards may be empty of all the necessary ingredients, mercifully London’s best restaurants are ready and raring to fill your face with some flipping good food. With the excitement really stacking up, it’s time to unveil our hotspots for the most heavenly pancakes the city has to offer.

The best spots for pancakes in London

1. Where The Pancakes Are, London Bridge

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday and an impressive five years in the pancake flipping business, Where The Pancakes Are will be extending their opening hours, from 7am – 10pm, and joining forces with Flat Iron Square to provide additional seating for the hungry hoards on the big day. Serving up mouthwatering stacks and even holding a three-legged flipping race for one lucky duo to win bubbles and free pancakes, this place should definitely be on your list of top locations for a pancake feast. 2. Duo London, Camden

If you’re someone for whom one pancake is simply not enough, then Duo London is the only place for you on pancake day. If you can wait until the weekend for the doughy goodness, Duo offers a killer combination of bottomless pancakes & prosecco, and even a live DJ on the day, if you’re looking to really celebrate pancake day in style, then Duo can certainly help you out. 3. Christopher’s, Covent Garden

Quite aside from their excellent year-round Build Your Own Pancake menu, Christopher’s is a prime spot for your annual pancake sesh. Savoury options include the very boujee Spiced Lobster Pancake, whilst sweet stuff comes in the form of a coconut pancakes, maple whipped coconut cream, fresh berries, coconut flakes and maple syrup. The most eye-catching option, however, has to be the chocolate chip cookie dough buttermilk pancake stack — covered in hazelnut butter ganache, honeycomb ice cream, and drizzled with chocolate sauce, it really takes indulgence to a whole new level. 4. Comptoir V, various locations

Comptoir V are coming in hot with some pancake flavours that you’re sure to flip out over. Inspired by Morocco, they like to offer a dangerously delicious selection of stacks that has included their savoury, smoked aubergine Zaalock with sautéed spinach, curried chickpeas and plantain. And, of course, their infamous flaky Moroccan Rhife pancakes, filled with Moroccan Amlou almond butter, caramelised biscuit, maple syrup and vanilla ice cream. Oh, and the best part is, it’s all 100% vegan — so you can fill your face without feeling even a fraction of guilt. And, the first 100 visitors to their Fulham branch on pancake day will receive a pancake on the house!  

5) Avobar, Covent Garden

The mean green machine that is Covent Garden’s Avobar is also getting in on the pancake game, with a helping of their green matcha pancakes. Topped with either caramelised bananas and maple syrup, or generous helpings of crispy bacon/salmon and a turmeric poached egg, this place is undeniably delivering some pretty impressive stacks. Perfect for breakfast, a little pre-lunch snack or maybe just a 4pm office break, there is really no bad time to get involved with these beauties. Find it at 24 Henrietta Street, WC2E 8ND. 

6. La Petite Bretagne, Hammersmith

This mighty popular spot for crepes operates a day of walk-ins only on Pancake Day, so you best get there with time! Here you’ll find some decadent sweet crepes – with toppings including nutella, lemon and sugar, maple syrup and more –  as well as some heavenly galletes, with a multitude of classic French toppings. They even run a deal that gets you a savoury gallete, a sweet crepe and a drink for £14.95 so it’s a top place to fill up at! Find it at 5-7 Beadon Road, W6 0EA.

7. Mortimer House, Fitzrovia

If your Veganuary experiment became a permanent fixture in your life, then look no further than Mortimer House for fabulously fluffy and totally vegan pancakes this year. Serving up stacks drizzled with vegan chocolate syrup, flavoured with cinnamon and orange, and topped with a helping of fresh fruit, they are truly as tasty as anything else on offer across the city. 8. My Old Dutch, Holborn

Since 1958, these guys have been flipping pancakes and racking up stacks bigger than your head, so we thought they were a pretty worthy addition to the list. At My Old Dutch, you can indulge your sweet tooth with a stack covered in berry compote, drenched in maple syrup and finished with whipped cream. Or you can go wild and opt from something a little more adventurous. With a whacking great range of both sweet and savoury pancakes for you to sink your teeth into, we reckon the only problem you’ll have with this place is choosing what to eat! 9. Balthazar, Covent Garden

NYC-inspired Covent Garden brasserie Balthazar are going to be serving up some especially tasty treats on the big day. From their classic crepes coated with lemon and vanilla sugar, to their adventurous socca crepes made with chickpea flour and filled with spiced Moroccan aubergine, courgette and apricot, we bet any serious pancake eater will be dying to dig into these! 10. Granger & Co, various locations

Controversially, Granger & Co insist on referring to them as “hotcakes”, but a pancake by any other name tastes just as delicious. Their ricotta hotcakes are whipped to peak fluffiness, and topped with honeycomb butter, sliced bananas, and a generous drizzle of maple syrup. Although we’re not keen on the name, we can’t deny we’re big fans of the taste.

11. Pancs, Covent Garden

Serving up the finest pancakes all year round, you’d be foolish to sleep on Pancs. You’ll find stacks of delicious sweet and savoury pancakes, including a full English breakfast pancake number and an apple cinnamon delight. The Riding House Café are keeping things classy and simple this Shrove Tuesday with their utterly unrivalled berry pancakes. Their luscious stack of buttermilks are topped with tangy berries, sticky maple syrup and rich clotted cream to create the perfect blend of flavours — unfailingly good. 13. Electric Diner, Notting Hill

Serving up a selection of scrumptious stacks this Pancake Day, the Electric Diner are well and truly committed to filling your belly with the best pancakes the city has to offer. Feast your face on some classic flavours and some flipping indulgent ones as well. Perfectly fluffy and generously drenched, these babies definitely won’t disappoint. 14. The Locals, Chelsea

If you’re a plant based type of person and you’re hoping to keep things relatively healthy this pancake day, then we have just the place for you. The Locals Cafe are serving up some seriously sensational pumpkin pancakes and we reckon they’re a must-try. Drenched in almond-caramel, covered with nuts and crushed biscuits, and finished with a Greek yogurt sauce, these stacks are surprisingly decadent. Find it at 8 Gatliff Road, SW1W 8DT.
