The First Trailer For The Final Season Of ‘Derry Girls’ Has Been Released

It’s shaping up to be a big year for TV shows reaching their conclusion, what with Killing Eve’s fourth and final season currently on the BBC, and soon it’ll be Derry Girls‘ time to wrap up. The cult Channel 4 comedy has been a delightful hit since first airing, with the setting in 90s Ireland proving fertile ground for both side-splitting comedy and poignant moments of reflection as the show’s quintet of teenagers grow up in the shadow of the Troubles. Today (March 17), the first trailer for the third and final season has been revealed – on St Patrick’s Day, no less – and we can hardly wait…

Starring the likes of Siobhán McSweeney, Tommy Tiernan, and Nicola Coughlan (whom you’ll know from a star turn in Bridgerton), the show has become a global success which has built plenty of hype for the final season. Creator Lisa McGee based the series in part on her experiences of growing up in Derry during the Troubles, describing the show as a “love letter” to the place she came from. Although if her school experience was half as wacky as the one depicted in the show, then the rest of us really missed out.

There’s no confirmed air date for the series yet, but Channel 4’s teaser is promising we’ll see it soon, so keep your eyes peeled for its return. In the meantime, we’ll heed the words of Sister Michael and “just try to enjoy the time you have left, girls”…
