Dua Lipa just gave us a lesson in graphic liner, AKA TikTok’s biggest beauty trend
We love a makeup trend that’s doable and wearable. Which is why we’re all for graphic liner being the biggest makeup trend to come out of 2021. According to a Skindex report, by luxury beauty brand Clarins, it was the top TikTok beauty trend of the past year.
The good news is, it’s going absolutely nowhere. Instead, it’s recruiting more support and more fans, which means there’s even more inspo to get our creative juices flowing. Woop. Case in point is the floating and back-flicked liner combo that Dua Lipa presented us with in a recent photo dump on her Insta grid.
The singer is currently making her way round the world on her Future Nostalgia Tour, so she’s been busy serving up quirky-cool beauty looks night after night. But we can thank her makeup artist, Shelby Smith – who Dua tagged in the pic – for this latest masterpiece. The eye makeup features a floating curve from Dua’s inner eye corner up toward her brow, paired with a traditional winged liner that then flicks back on itself. And from the looks of things, Dua’s all for experimenting with her mua on next-level looks since she commented on a post of the same picture on Shelby’s page writing “you really snapped”.
The beauty of this graphic liner is that is’s a look that Dua could have easily created herself with a bit of patience and a steady hand. And the same goes for the rest of us. Once we’ve got the basics of a winged-liner down, it opens up an endless avenue of creative ways to refresh our makeup with teensy tweaks, extra flicks and playful elements to spice up our regular eye makeup with something a little more intricate and interesting.
It’s pretty easy to pull off, too, especially if you stick to classic black and keep the rest of your makeup fresh, pared back and simple. Or you can have fun with brighter colours like neons and pastels. Either way, for upcoming trips to the pub garden, mates barbecues and summer nights out, we’ll be keeping Dua’s graphic liner look in our back pocket.
