The trailer for a crazy biopic of The Sex Pistols just dropped, here’s what we know

Punk rock music fans brace yourselves, because the trailer for The Sex Pistols biopic Pistol just dropped and it’s even better than we’d expected!

Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle breathes life into this upcoming movie, and we’re super excited to learn more about the legendary band.

Here’s everything we know about Pistol so far.

What can we expect to see in Pistol?

The series is based on the memoir of the band’s guitarist, Steve Jones, entitled ‘Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol.’ The show details the band’s journey from its rise to prominence in 1975 all the way to its dismantlement merely two years after its formation.

The band’s frontman, John Lydon, has been vocal about his dislike of Pistol, referring to it as ‘the most disrespectful shit I’ve ever had to endure.’ Lydon even lost a legal fight against his fellow
bandmates as he was against Sex Pistols’ music being used in the series.

‘One word: Destroy,’ says one of the boys in the trailer, a phrase that perfectly encapsulates the band’s rebellious nature. The band is credited with introducing Britain to punk rock, particularly the absolute chaos that ensued after The Sex Pistols released their groundbreaking single ‘God Save the Queen’ in 1977.

The song was banned by the BBC and nearly every other radio station in the UK for referring to the Queen as ‘fascist,’ and for promoting anti-establishment ideas.

Their controversial and subversive music dealing with social and political issues, as well as their unruly image have rendered them one of the best and most influential bands of all time.

Who has been cast in Pistol?

Pistol boasts a young and fresh cast, including some notable names. Steve Jones is played by Tony Wallace, also known for his role as Moses in 2019’s Babyteeth

His bandmates are stars: Crawl’s Anson Boon plays John Lydon, Christian Lees will play Glen Matlock and Enola Holmes’s Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious.

Joining them are also Maisie Williams, known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, and The Queen’s Gambit’s Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

When will Pistol be available to watch?

Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long. Pistol will premiere on May 31 on Hulu and Disney+, we’re also given the chance to binge watch the entire season, as all six episodes will be released at the same time!
