Step Into This East London Rooftop Bar To Catch The First Of The Summer Rays • PocketSquare

Think you’ve tried just about every rooftop bar in search for the perfect view in London? Think again, my friend. A new arrival joined us at the end of last summer in east London in the form of PocketSquare, and now it’s back for its first full prime rooftop bar season. Sat atop of the 9th floor of the new Hyatt Place London City East hotel, the vantage point soars over the city; providing views of the Gherkin, Canary Wharf, the O2 and much more. The interior is nothing to be sniffed at either, with the outdoor spot incorporating work by mural artist Jay Kaes.

Sat among prime locations like Brick Lane and Shoreditich, PocketSquare is the bar for lovers of a good old G&T (i.e. everybody). Specialising in all things gin, you’ll also find some of the most inventive cocktails, inspired by the city’s diverse history and culture with an east London twist.

Every concoction you sip has been carefully crafted in their own cocktail laboratory to create the perfect (and new) flavour profile. They’ve even been known to put pineapple leaves in bitters; we’ll wager that wasn’t nearly as divisive as the pineapple on pizza debate, however. Now, they’ve got an all-new cocktail menu inspired by London’s art, culture and music in collaboration with London design graduate Ellen Russell.

Each drink carries a unique tale. Take the Meiso, which finds its roots in west London’s beloved Kyoto Gardens. it pairs Roku Gin with Mikan Essence, Peach & Aloe Vera Sake and Bamboo & Stevia syrup and is recomended to be enjoyed with their Seaweed prawn dumpling with yakiniku sauce and gold leaf dish.

Or, you could give In2Art a whirl – a tribute to art and design charity Intoart, serving a up a drink with coconut oil was Campari, Mama Juana, Tepache and Bergamont orange spray; presented with a piece of rice paper showcasing new artwork from the rcharity’s roster. Every In2Art sold will see £1 donated to the charity.

Also new on the block is the Infinity, which praises two landmark events happening this summer in London: the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the 10 year anniversary of the 2012 Olympics. Sustainably responsible ingredients like Sauvelle Vodka are paired with hibiscus, kumpquat and pomegranate molasses to form this exquisite creation.

PocketSquare reopens its terrace and new menu on May 12. Regular DJs will appear at the spot, and you can find booking information here.
