MAMBOW TO OPEN IN PECKHAM

After working at her family’s bakeries in Singapore and Malaysia, and cooking in a Michelin kitchen in Italy, Abby Lee first opened Mambow in Spitalfields in 2020. Unfortunately it was just before the first lockdown, and we all know how that went for restaurants, but thankfully she’s back again and this time she’s moving south to Peckham. Opening in Market Stalls (where Forza Wine, Tonkotsu and Peckham Audio live), Mambow will serve a range of Malaysian food, including Nyonya dishes that blend Chinese ingredients and recipes with Indo-Malay flavours, with a natty wine list by Les Caves de Pyrene.

You can expect plates like chicken wings in anchovy sambal; deep-fried five spice pork & prawn rolls in bean curd skin; mild yellow coconut curry with jackfruit; black pepper chicken curry; sour fish curry with okra & aubergine; glass noodle salad with vegan sambal, tofu puffs, roasted coconut & herbs; and grilled pork belly with cucumber, tomatoes, pounded dried shrimp & sambal belacan. The classic nasi lemak will be on the lunch menu, alongside the three curries and the daytime-only Hainanese chicken sando, with poached, shredded chicken, kewpie mayo, chicken fat chilli vinegar, crispy onions & cucumber – now that’s what we call a sarnie.
