Take In A Movie At This Canalside Film Festival In King’s Cross
In a city with endlessly creative ways to watch films, how do you stand out amongst the open-air cinema options? Well, you can always make it free. And that’s exactly what Everyman has done with their delightful Screen on the Canal festival.
Screen on the Canal is turning the Granary Square steps of King’s Cross into an idyllic canal-side viewing area. Viewers can flop into a bean bag, lounge in a, er, lounger, or grab a seat on the grass covered steps. And sure we all know the British summer can be unpredictable, with heatwaves one week and autumn-temperatures and rain the next. That’s why the festival will be running all the way through to August, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the experience in the appropriate weather. Or, whatever you think is appropriate weather at least. We’ll spring for the heat and the sunshine. But maybe you prefer your movie with a light drizzle and a mac?
Screenings will run throughout the day and into the evening, with films ranging from blockbuster hits to feel-good family favourites. Among them will be The Greatest Showman, Grease, Top Gun, and even an Encanto sing-along performance. They’ll also be showing the action from the Wimbledon courts and the F1 tracks. In between screenings, live music will keep the crowds entertained. Handy for waking up that one friend that always falls asleep at the movies.
Launching June 27, Screen on the Canal will run until August 7 at Canalside Steps, Granary Square, King’s Cross, N1C 4PQ.
There’s no tickets, and there’s no cost (unless you’re grabbing food and drinks while you’re there). There are limited numbers per viewing, though, so be sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Find out more at the website.
