GLAMOUR Tries: Hair gems are all the rage over on TikTok, so we put them to the test using the viral hair stamping device

There’s no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there’s nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don’t *actually* work.

Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

Yep, we’ve been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the Zuvi Halo (the hair dryer of dreams) to Il Makiage’s iconic foundation and the Slimyonik Air body styler. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.

Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won’t need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We’re getting in their first, giving you the lowdown and making sure you invest in products that genuinely work.

This week, Office Manager & PA to the European Editorial Director Sally Hunter put hair gems to the test using this Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. The device has gone viral on TikTok for its ability to decorate hair with self-adhesive gems, leaving people with festival-ready locks in seconds. You simply slot a sheet of gems into the opening and clamp down on your hair for the gems to stick – easy!

“Thanks to Sophie Murray, this hair gems stamping tool went viral on TikTok – so obviously we had to get a hold of one to give it a try ourselves.” Sally says.

“I’ve gone for a messy half-up-half-down look just like the video. The tool comes with these really cute little gems, and the device is literally so easy to use. You just pop it open, put the gems in and then start stamping!” She says. Sally takes a strand of hair and begins applying the gems; “oh my gosh! OK, I’m going to put more in, bear with.”

She finishes stamping the rest of her hair and reports back. “It just adds something extra to a party or a festival outfit, and they’re only £11!”
