PAUL MESCAL IS HEADING TO THE STAGE TO STAR IN A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

The Almeida Theatre has a hell of an autumn season lined up for us, with a new musical about American evangelist Tammy Faye written by Elton John, Jake Shears and James Graham kicking things off, followed by a new production of the Tennessee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Normal People’s Paul Mescal. Fans of Connell and his chain, prepare to see a very different side to Mr Mescal as he’s taking on the iconic role of Stanley Kowalski, most famously played by Marlon Brando in the 1951 film adaption.

The play follows faded Southern belle Blanche DuBois as she moves into the New Orleans apartment shared by her sister Stella and Stella’s husband Stanley, where the past becomes exposed and violent conflict ensues. Lydia Wilson will be playing Blanche, Anjana Vasan of We Are Lady Parts will be playing Stella, and Rebecca Frecknell, who directed a revival of another Williams play, Summer & Smoke at the theatre a few years ago, will be directing, so it’s all set to be a blockbuster show.
