Olivia Wilde wore the most memorable look of the night to the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles. The Don’t Worry Darling actor-director sparkled in a Gucci chevron print purple and silver sequin slip dress with a zig-zag hemline. The finish touch? A pair of fetish-inspired fire engine red latex opera gloves with heeled sandals in a matching hue.

Purple and red aren’t exactly complimentary colours, but that tension is what makes Wilde’s ensemble so playful and unexpected. Royal purple has become a recurring theme in Italian creative director Alessandro Michele’s recent work, as seen on Wilde’s boyfriend/Gucci muse Harry Styles, who sported the hue while on tour.

Sponsored by Gucci, the annual fundraiser honoured director Park Chan-wook and artist Helen Pashgian. Sporting a similarly daring ‘fit, fellow LACMA attendee Kendall Jenner partied in a a sheer, long-sleeved bodysuit with a dangerously low-rise silver skirt that moved like liquid metal.
