Make A Bid & Make A Difference This Christmas

The West London cultural institution that is Artists at Home is hosting its third online charity auction this month. Taking place from 10 am on Wednesday, November 16th and closing on Sunday the 27th of November at 9 pm – the auction raises money for The Upper Room – which supports vulnerable people by providing food, accommodation, support and employment.

It’s a great opportunity to pick up a pre-Christmas bargain and do some good at the same time, with artists donating up to 100% (and a minimum of 50%) of proceeds to the charity. It’s certainly worth browsing the lots here to see if something catches your eye. Items on offer include paintings, prints, jewellery, ceramics, and accessories, with starting bids well below the artists’ usual prices.

Artists at Home celebrates 50 years next year and was founded by renowned artists Julian Trevelyan and his wife Mary Fedden. It can claim to be one of the first-ever open studio events in the country. Many distinguished artists based in a three-mile radius of Chiswick, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush open their studios every year in June to the public, who enjoy seeing and buying work in the place it was created. The Charity Auction was first introduced during the pandemic when studios could not be opened and have proved so popular with bids coming in from all over the world, that the organisers decided to make it an annual event in itself.

Chris Francis, CEO of The Upper Room, added: “We are delighted that Artists at Home is once again organising an Online Auction on behalf of The Upper Room. The cost-of-living crisis is hitting our guests hard, and we have seen a huge increase in demand for our services in the past 12 months. We are now routinely feeding 100 people a day which is an increase of 185% from the start of the year, and we fear that this figure will inevitably rise as winter approaches. We are incredibly grateful to the artists who are generously donating 50-100% of the proceeds to us. Every pound raised will make a significant difference in enabling us to support so many people in need in our local community”.
