That’s why we at Secret London have decided to select all of our favourite spots that will satisfy your meaty cravings without breaking the bank too much. Here’s our rundown of thirteen of the best steak restaurants in London:

When Hot Stone say it’s hot, they mean it’s hot. 400°C volcanic rock, to be precise. Islington’s sizzling steak and sushi house has garnered a reputation for it’s high quality Kobe beef using the ancient Japanese method of cooking. This year for Black Friday, Hot Stone have got some tasty steak offers for you to tuck into — not one kind of wagyu, but three.

You can end up saving 61% on their wagyu platter, boasting a olive-fed and Australian cuts of beef, which allows you to dine on three courses for just £29.99, down from £77. Plus, for an extra tenner you can add one of their divine seafood taster boxes; filled to the brim with sashimi, fatty tuna and more. Still hungry? You can make that a six course, tongue-tingling wagyu experience for £49.99, in a deal that would normally set you back £133.

2. Le Petit Beefbar

Situated in the heart of Chelsea, this fantastic new-kid-on-the-block swung open its doors back in November, and is a welcome addition to the London steak restaurants scene. As the first UK outpost of the luxurious Beefbar brand – which was created in Monaco by famed restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi – expectations were high, but boy does this place deliver.

Inspired by a street-food-menu-style, starters include their ‘Signature Bao buns’ – a tasty package of jasmine tea smoked Wagyu beef brisket, jambon d’entrecôte and barbecue sauce – ‘Baby Quesadillas’ and beef-infused ‘Posh Shawarmas’. But the star attraction here is the selection of mains, which include a mouthwatering ‘Filet Mignon’ with a creamy mash and the classic ‘Steak & Frites’, drizzled with their one-of-a-kind Le Petit Beefbar sauce.

If you’ve got room for dessert, go for the ‘Gelato Mantecato’ which comes with all the trimmings – all best washed down with a bottle of Chianti of course.

You’ll find Le Petit Beefbar at 27 Cale St, SW3 3QP. Nearest stations are Sloane Square and South Kensington.

3. Jones Family Kitchen

Nestled within the hidden gem that is Eccleston Yards, the lovely Jones Family Kitchen opened back in May 2018, sister to the Jones Family Project in lively Shoreditch. It’s since become known for its premium cuts of meat cooked on Josper grills — but it’s excellent in so many other ways, too!

The cocktail list alone is pretty incredible – go for the ‘Roll With ‘Em’ if you love your rum or the ‘Honey Go Brightly’ if you’re more of a gin person – and the starters cover everything from octopus salad to duck egg and wild mushrooms. But let’s face it – this is a roundup of the best steak restaurants in London – and you’re here for the meat right?

Sourced from famous butcher The Ginger Pig, they do a mean sirloin, rib-eye, fillet or rump steak – all served with optional truffle fries, scorched cauliflower and sauteed wild mushrooms.

You’ll find Jones Family Kitchen at 7-8 Eccleston Yards, Belgravia, SW1W 9AZ. Nearest station is Victoria.

4. Hawksmoor

As the long-reigning ‘Kings of the Red Meat’, Hawksmoor is the best place to go if you’re a raging carnivore. When they first opened back in 2006, this London steakhouse made a commitment to only serve the best beef that the UK has to offer. Ever since, they’ve ensured that all of their beef comes from local British farms and from cattle who’ve led the best quality of life.

It shows – as the steak served here is bloody delicious. Go for the chateaubriand if you’re looking for something a bit more fancy to share, or they do succulent sirloin, rump, fillet and rib-eye cuts too. Add in beef dripping fries and a half lobster for starters (yep, really) and you’re onto a winner!

Plus on Mondays they have a BYOB policy, where you can bring your own wine and pay just a £5 corkage fee. We’ll cheers to that!

You’ll find Hawksmoor in various locations across London.

When we think of dark horses, we don’t think of sports teams, we think of this big ole’ 800g sharing steak served with the juiciest tomatoes you ever did see. Seriously, find someone you’re willing to share with, grab yourself some tasty sides – we recommend the rosemary and garlic roasties with buttery mixed greens – and a nice bottle of red vino, and you’re in for a right old treat.

Darkhorse also do some pretty mean desserts – go for the apple and blackberry crumble or the steamed sticky toffee pudding – and they also do a killer roast on Sundays. You’ll find them in Stratford, just a stone’s throw from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

You’ll find Darkhorse at 16 Victory Parade, East Village, Stratford, E20 1FS. Nearest station is Stratford International.

6. Flat Iron

Flat Iron is the perfect answer to “where can I get a decent steak in London without spending my life’s wages?” After all, at this London steakhouse you’ll pay just 12 quid. FOR STEAK. And not even an overcooked may-as-well-have-gone-to-Wetherspoons kind of steak… we’re talking proper meaty if-you-ask-for-well-done-you’re-offending-us kind of steak.

Okay so you might want to add some beef dripping chips or some creamed spinach on the side, but you’re paying £12 for the steak. Okay, okay, we’ll stop going on about it. There’s free popcorn (and even that’s meaty), a smashing wine list and cocktails for under a tenner. Plus, they source their meat directly from the source, with some of the cuts on offer from their very own herd of cattle in North Yorkshire. Now if that doesn’t say best steak restaurant in London contender, we don’t know what will.

You’ll find Flat Iron in various locations across London.

7. Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte

When there’s only one dish on the menu, you know it’s going to be pretty damn good. In this instance, all you do is tell them how you like your steak cooked and you’ll be presented with steak et frites, which will come with their famous house sauce. Ooh la freaking la.

Of course, there’s more to the experience at Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote than just the main course. For starters, you’ll get a fresh walnut salad with a mustard vinaigrette – dessert comes in the form of cheese (but of course) and delectable, homemade pastries. Let’s not forget the wine either – after all the bistro was actually started by a winemaker way back in 1959.

You’ll find Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte in London Marylebone and in the City of London.

A spread of succulent steak chops, sides and drinks at Blacklock
Photo: @blacklockchops

A solid favourite in the book of ‘Best London Restaurants for Meat Lovers by Meat Lovers’ (or at least it would be if that actually existed). Although the steak by itself is excellent, we recommend going for the ‘All In’. You’ll get a selection of pre-chop bites, followed by a juicy pile (yes, literally) of beef, lamb and pork. On top of that (no, not literally) you’ll also get two sides; choosing from beef dripping chips, ash-roasted sweet potato, or a bunch of other fancy green stuff.

They’ve also got a whole array of mouth wateringly-good sauces – think garlic marrow spread and a chilli-infused hollandaise – as well a heavenly white chocolate cheesecake. Need something to wash all that down? You’re in luck, as they’ve got their own Blacklock beers on tap as well as litres of wine. No, really… They also do a killer roast.

You’ll find Blacklock in Soho, the City and Shoreditch.

9. Santa Maria del Sur

When it comes to steak, you’re always in pretty safe hands at an Argentinian restaurant – there are more cattle than people in the country after all. At Santa Maria del Sur, you’re guaranteed excellent service, a buzzing atmosphere, lovely bottles of Malbec wine (what else?) and melt-in-the-mouth beef.

Top picks for us would be the premium ‘Bife de Lomo’ steak or the ‘Paradilla Deluxe’ mixed grill – with chips and creamed spinach of course – but you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here. Gordon Ramsey even visited and there wasn’t any swearing – except maybe “that was really f*cking good” – so that’s got to say a lot, right?

You’ll find Santa Maria Del Sur at 129 Queenstown Rd, SW8 3RH. Nearest stations are Queenstown Road or Wandsworth Road.

10. Gaucho

If you strike up a conversation with someone about the best steak restaurants in London, Gaucho is bound to get a mention. Renowned for its fantastic meat and wine combo, this high-end chain – whose name literally translates to being a ‘brave and skilled horseman – is the true taste of Argentina.

There are currently twelve branches in our beloved capital and counting, with all of them offering a zero carbon ‘Lomo Verde’ option which helps towards a reforestation programme in the Amazon Rainforest. It might not be the cheapest option on this list, but it’s definitely more than worth it for a special occasion.

You’ll find Gaucho in various locations across London.

11. The Coal Shed

Situated just a stone’s throw away from Tower Bridge, this rustic spot offers up some of the best steak in London. Don’t believe us? Well the proof is in the pudding as they say. Their menu is designed to celebrate a combination of seasonal, sustainable meat and seafood, with the star attraction being a range of 35-day, dry-aged Lake District steaks that are expertly cooked over hot coals.

The daily specials board features rare-breed cuts from specialist farms, and salivate-inducing sides include short-rib mac’n’cheese, tender stem broccoli with pine nuts and garlic and a wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon. But it’s not all about the steak at The Coal Shed – they also do a great roast and some excellent seafood.

You’ll find The Coal Shed at One Tower Bridge, SE1 2SE. Nearest station is London Bridge.

12. High Timber

Overlooking London icons the Millenium Bridge, the Tate Modern and the Shard, High Timber already ticks many boxes before you’ve even stepped through the door. But once you’ve sat down and perused the menu with a glass of vino in hand, you’ll see why we’ve featured it on this list of the best steak restaurants in London.

Sirloin, fillet and ribeye steaks – made with 28-day-matured Cumbrian beef – are the focus here, with the option to drizzle your meat (steady on) with bearnaise, truffle mustard, chimichurri and garlic and parsley butter sauces. This being a South African joint, the wine list is also pretty fantastic, and they’ve got some lovely artwork adorning the walls.

You’ll find High Timber at Broken Wharf House, 8 High Timber St, EC4V 3PA. Nearest stations are Blackfriars and Mansion House.

13. Steak & Co

Rounding off this list of the best steak restaurants in London is Steak & Co, which has four branches dotted about the city. The steak on their menu is sourced directly from the Las Pampas region of South America, where they specialise in breeding purebred Aberdeen Angus and Aberdeen Angus Cross steers. The result is an incredibly tender cut of quality beef, which you can cook to your own personal preference on their famous sizzling hot steak stones. Rare, medium-rare, well-done… the choice is completely yours.

They also do a lunchtime special of steak, chips, green leaf salad, chimichurri sauce, mayonnaise, and peppercorn sea salt for just £10.50 – yep, really – and have an array of smashing sides including beer-battered onion rings and parmesan and truffle french fries. Suits us!

You’ll find Steak & Co in various locations across London.
