CHECKING IN | FULLERTON BAY HOTEL, SINGAPORE

Located just over the road from its big sister (the iconic Fullerton), is The Fullerton Bay Hotel, which opened in 2010. Built entirely over the water on Marina Bay, the hotel comprises two major parts: the entrance, which takes you directly into the art deco Clifford Pier, a major historical landing point for Singapore’s immigrants, and a modern glass-fronted building to the right that hangs over the water. While most of the action is in the new building, it makes for a great entrance to walk through into the long spacious pier building before transitioning to the more modern design of the extension.

One of the key selling points of the Fullerton Bay Hotel is its location – it’s right in the middle of the Central Business District, close to shops, subway stations, restaurants and cultural venues. Practicalities and conveniences aside however, its real trump card is the location on the waterfront offering fantastic views out to Marina Bay Sands and beyond. With many of Singapore’s hotels housed in tall skyscrapers, it’s nice to be in something just a few stories high and with the feeling of space that you get looking out onto the water rather than hemmed in by neighbouring buildings.

There are 100 rooms at Fullerton Bay, all in various shapes and sizes. You’ll pay more for the ones that face outwards across the bay but even the lead-in Deluxe rooms on the sides of the building are spacious and have private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s a classic elegance to the room design, featuring polished rosewood, burl wood, leather and chrome accents. And there are all the modern smarts you want: a big screen with Apple TV; BlueTooth speaker; coffee and tea; and a work desk if you need to get down to the emails. We loved the marble-clad bathroom too, which had a big bathtub and a television at one end to add a bit of extra luxe.

The jewel in the crown of the hotel is up on the roof – it’s here that you’ll find the gym; a brilliant outdoor pool that’s got the Singapore skyscrapers behind it and the open bay in front of it; and the Lantern rooftop bar. Come up here for some sunset cocktails and snacks while enjoying the views, you can even catch the Marina Bay Sands light show around 7pm. For something more substantial to eat, the hotel has two restaurants, including The Landing Point for a swish afternoon tea, and La Brasserie for a menu of French and international classics. This is also where breakfast is served in the morning, featuring a globe-trotting buffet and an a la carte menu of hot breakfasts and sweets like pancakes and waffles.

For a stay that combines luxury, an unbeatable location and great service and facilities, The Fullerton Bay Hotel is a great choice for your next Singapore stopover.
