CHECKING IN | HOME HOTEL BUENOS AIRES
Buenos Aires is a huge city, made up of a ton of different neighbourhoods, though undoubtably it’s Palermo that’s most the hipster of them all, filled with shopping boutiques, bars, and great restaurants. Palermo is itself spilt into different areas, and Home Hotel is located on a leafy street in ‘Hollywood’, within walking distance of most of the big tourist spots and super close to Villa Crespo, which is fast becoming the new hotspot for cool kids.
The hotel was the first boutique design-led property to open in Palermo back in 2005 and it’s still one of the best options in the neighbourhood. A small unassuming building on a quiet street, Home has just 20 rooms, which gives it a very cosy, homely feel – the clue’s in the name when it comes to the vibe of the place.
Then there’s the lobby, which has the feeling of a living room with its cool Scandi-furniture, complete with crammed bookshelves for guests to enjoy, and even its own cat – just make sure it’s the hotel cat you let in, not the cunning neighbour’s one who managed to convince us he was staying. There’s also a small restaurant which is surprisingly popular with locals and a cute garden with swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after a day out.
We stayed in the Superior Garden View room with floor-to-ceiling windows and views over the garden below, a spacious bathroom and comfy bed. It’s worth shelling out for a larger room if you’re staying a while and travelling with a larger suitcase – some of the suites even have their own outdoor spaces, which again give the feel of staying in a friend’s house, only with hotel service.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant, which has tables inside for aircon junkies or outside in the tree-filled garden, which is a very pleasant place to sit. It’s a simple affair with eggs, fruit, pastries and strong coffee but good enough to set you up for a day exploring, shopping or cycling. And you can check out our top tips for Buenos Aires here.
