‘Multiple’ New Lord Of The Rings Movies Are In The Works At Warner Bros

The appetite for Lord of the Rings is as strong as ever and major Hollywood studios are looking to take advantage of its popularity. LOTR diehards will likely be seeing more of Middle-earth soon because Warner Bros and New Line have announced “multiple” new adaptations of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The new films will be developed through Warner Bros’ production company New Line Cinema, which also produced the original trilogy made by Peter Jackson. No filmmakers are attached to the new projects yet.

Jackson and his main Lord of the Rings collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens said Warner Bros. “have kept us in the loop every step of the way,” in a statement to Variety.

“We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward,” Jackson, Walsh and Boyens said.

The multi-year deal would enable Warner Bros to develop a number of feature films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books.

The first set of films directed by Peter Jackson, starred Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen and Sean Astin and cumulatively grossed over $3 billion worldwide. It also nabbed a total of 30 Oscar nominations and 17 wins including best picture for Return of the King. The follow-up trilogy of The Hobbit matched those numbers at the box office.

No details about the movies have been revealed but we’re also getting anime movie War Of The Rohirrim in 2024 and Prime Video’s Rings of Power series which bought Middle-earth’s Second Age to television screens last year.
