If there’s one thing we thought New York possibly did better than London…it was single slice pizzas. That was, until now. And, looking at the state of some of our dating lives over here at Secret London (sigh), we’re just glad to have found another acceptable dinner for one. Some of the places sell the whole thing too. So, y’know…if it’s getting really bad…slice up your life a different way! Here’s a rundown of eight places to get pizza by the slice in London:

1. Joe Public, Clapham

Joe Public opened its doors (of an old derelict public toilet, might we add) back in March 2016, and they did a hell of a good job transforming the former bog into a Californian-style pizza restaurant-come-bar. They dish up freshly-baked pizza slices and offer a menu that changes daily. Now that we can get on board with (sorry).

Prices range from £3.50 – £5 and the flavours (which are DEL-icious) include a variety of classic toppings and contemporary twists (think chicken and chorizo halloumi and oregano or native mushrooms with crispy shallots and truffle oil). But it’s not all about pizza here – they’ve also got lunchtime butties, craft beers, wines and ciders too. Winner, winner!

2. Homeslice, Various Locations

Homeslice have become legendary in London for their table-dominating pizzas – which measure up to 20-feet-wide – seriously! If that all sounds a bit much, then you’ll be pleased to know that you can also buy it by the slice too. 

You can choose from margherita, mushroom or salami, and prices range from £4.50 to £5.50 per slice. They also do an amazing range of sides and cocktails here – from espresso martinis to mojitos – and there’s also a delectable brownie you can have for dessert. Date night for one perhaps?

3. Voodoo Ray’s, Dalston & Peckham

Another great spot where you can get a hold of pizza by the slice in London is Voodoo Ray’s – a NYC-inspired joint based in both Dalston and Peckham. As well as giant 22-inch pizzas – yep, seriously – they also do all their flavours by the slice for just four quid. And those flavours are seriously all to die for. 

While you can’t exactly go wrong, our favourites might just be the ‘Giorgio Moroder’ – which consists of goats cheese, sunblush tomatoes, courgette and basil – and the ‘Hot Mix 5’ – a heavenly concoction of pepperoni, jalapeño, red chillies and red pepper. Even better, they do cheap deals on Mondays, have raucous drag brunches and are open until the wee hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Post-pub sesh pizza slice anyone?

Rondo La Cave has partnered up with Four Corners, following a successful three month stint in their bar, for a permanent residency – and we’re quite frankly ecstatic about it. 

They’re offering up all the fan favourites here by the slice, such as the downright naughty ‘Soppressata’, which comes with Arrabiata sauce and loaded with soppressata and hot honey to boot. There’s also the ‘Pistachio & Mortadella pie’, where pistachio pesto, mortadella, and plenty of cheese crown the hunks of dough. Plus, a rotating menu of specials will also keep you coming back for more as they get crazy with the toppings. And let’s not forget all that natural wine – phew!

One of the best places to get pizza by the slice in London is Arancina – a Sicilian pizza restaurant in Notting Hill that does things the traditional way. They’re made with a blend of premium flours, fired in a stone bake oven and served on a traditional wooden board – and made with a secret ingredient that the owners won’t give up. And you know how much we love a secret here at Secret London…

Flavours include the ‘Vegan Glory’, the ‘Carnivora’ and the classic ‘Romana’, so there’s something for everyone here. Add in the fact that they also have some delectable arancini balls, tiramisu and Nutella pizza rings on the roster, and you can see why we love this place.

Baked in authentic ‘blue steel’ pans, Detroit Pizza’s wares are almost akin to a pizza-topped focaccia, for the sheer airy doughiness – but we’re gonna argue that they’re 100x better. Think rich sauce, crispy cheesy crust, and incredible, sloppy toppings to boot too.

Given the name, they take inspiration from *duh*, deep-dish, Detroit-style pizzas, and we for one love it. In terms of pizza by the slice, you’ve got two options here. Choose from the classic ‘Red Stripe’ (parmesan and red sauce) or the ‘Pepperoni’ and wash whatever you go for down with an American beer or a can of pop. It’d be rude not to let’s be honest…

7. All Kaps Pizza, Dalston

Is it the exclusivity that makes this pizza so delicious? It’s only available one day a week, after all. But to dismiss it as pure hype is to do this place a grave disservice. Popping up at Papo’s Bagels in Dalston every Sunday from 4-8pm, All Kaps is perhaps London’s most exciting new pizza venture. 

Flavours change every week, so it’s kind of lucky dip what you’ll be getting. But trust us – they’re all bloody good. Plus, at around three quid a pop, they’re bloody good value – particularly during the old cost-of-living-criss. Grab a slice, prop it on the paper plate, stuff it down your throat. Rinse and repeat. You can thank us later.

8. Bad Boy Pizza Society, Various Locations

Rounding off this list of the best places to get pizza by the slice in London is the Bad Boy Pizza Society, which actually started out as a ‘parody university society, aiming to get discount pizza for all the crew’. It’s now grown to three different branches across the city – one in Vinegar Yard, one in Seven Dials Market and one by the National Theatre.

Their Pepperoni Alla Vodka Sicilian Pie scooped up the ‘National Pizza of the Year‘ award at the National Pizza Awards in 2022, and they do some great deals here too. In terms of flavours, our favourite might just have to be the ‘Crusty Old Goat’ – and not only because of the name. A heavenly concoction of mozzarella, goat’s cheese, caramelised onions, balsamic glaze, cracked black pepper and parsley, you’ll find it hard to order just the one slice.
