While the year’s traditional awards season may now be behind us, the 2023 Met Gala is here to remind you that 2023’s most major red carpet looks are only just getting started.

Forever host to some of the most spectacular celebrity fashion moments, while much of the UK spent ‘the first Monday in May’ basking in some eagerly-anticipated bank holiday sunshine, things were a whole lot more hectic across the pond as agents, celebrities, designers and stylists finalised the finishing touches for what was about to be one of the most talked-about events of the year.

Co-chaired this year by Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer – with Emma Chamberlain, LaLa Anthony, Derek Blasberg and Chloe Fineman hosting the annual livestream – there’s no doubt that the next few hours are going to play host to some seriously memorable looks.

While attendees are encouraged to go as big as they dare in the fashion stakes, they are steered in in a certain direction by the event’s annual theme.

Much like the 2017 Met Gala – which held the theme Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between – as well as 2011’s iteration – Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty – the 2023 Met Gala theme was revealed in September to be in honour of one designer.

Titled Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, this year’s red carpet will showcase a sartorial tribute to the late designer who was best known for his role as Creative Director at Chanel, as well as his work at Fendi, Chloé and his eponymous brand.
