Since its opening in 2017, Printworks has been the name synonymous with clubbing in London — when you think of a scaled-up night out in the city, your mind jumps there.

In fact, the cascading, pulsating room of light was recently named the UK’s second-favourite club in a study, just beaten to the top spot by Manchester’s famous Warehouse Project.

People have, therefore, been justifiably lamenting the closure of Printworks, which held its final parties last weekend before shutting up shop, making room for offices; because that’s what this city needs more of, clearly.

But it may not be the end. The space that just held the rave to end all raves—with special guest appearances from the likes of Andy C and BICEP—could be making a surprise return to the same site, after they announced their intention to make a comeback in 2026.

Just before BICEP’s closing set on May 1, an announcement was made that signalled their plan to return to the iconic Press Halls space in three years.

London Night Czar, Amy Lamé said: “London’s world-famous nightlife is the heartbeat of our capital and Printworks has played a dynamic role bringing together culture, music and entertainment and attracting artists and visitors from all over the world. I am delighted there is an exciting future ahead for Printworks and I will continue working with all involved to ensure they thrive.”

It closed today as part of a £3.5 billion redevelopment of the space, which is where Printworks have been hosting events at the 6,000-capacity venue over the last six years. Broadwick Live, who ran the venue during this time, have said they are working with the building owners British Land, and hope to submit planning permission for the second iteration of Printworks.

As previously reported, Southwark Council approved the redevelopment to the area which would mean an extra 200,000 square metres of workspace, despite a petition to save the space reaching over 11,00 signatures.

Broadwick Live had previously hinted at the return of Printworks back in September 2022, confirming talks were being held with British Land.

“Printworks has brought lasting impact to our scene, to our city, to artists and our local community. The future Printworks venue aims to build on this, bringing together all the best in all electronic music and visual arts, both as well as hosting some of the world’s best orchestras, ballet companies and other art forms.”

Whether Printworks makes the grand comeback to Press Halls in 2026 or not, there’s little doubt that it’s left its mark on London’s nightlife by holding regular large-scale events and hosting DJs that may not otherwise have a chance to play to crowds of this size in the capital.
